From the moment you wake up until the time you go to bed your brain is inundated with information, choices, and stimuli. More often than not, all of those choices, constant checking of your phone and email manifests itself as anxiety. Giving your brain a rest has never been more important.

Here are three things you can do to unwind:

  1. Meditation – There are a plethora of great apps available to help you meditate. Headspace is one that I use and that helped me learn to meditate. Their guided meditation feature can help your brain in as little as 10 minutes a day.
  2. Unplug – Get away from your phone, tablet and, or computer for even a day. This has been shown to boost your brain, benefit your relationships and reduce anxiety.
  3. The Shultz Hour – George Shultz was secretary of the state in the 1980s. Every single week he spent an hour in deep thought with a pad of paper and pen. He was only to be interrupted by his wife or the President. Carving out time in your life to think deeply is critically important in a world that is constantly trying to pull you in different directions.

Treat your brain like Randy Moss treated his job as a wide receiver, and start taking some plays off.
